Parkland Academies

Parkland provides Judo, Ice Hockey, Sailing and Outdoor Education

Judo Academy

  • Only academy of its kind in western Canada
  • Build physical strength, endurance and flexibility
  • Form close bonds and relationships beyond the Judo mats
  • Receive 4 Judo credits and 4 PE credits each year of participation
  • Taught in the last block of the day. No need to go back to class sweaty!

Sailing Academy

  • Develop sailing knowledge and skills while earning credit toward graduation
  • On the water training and experience outside the regular school day at the Sidney-North Saanich Yacht Club
  • Offered in the fall (semester 1) and spring (semester 2) annually
  • No pre-requisite courses needed
  • Participate in the Lower Vancouver Island Sailing League and compete against other schools

Ice Hockey Academy

  • On and office ice hockey skill development
  • 3 ice sessions and 2 dryland training sessions per week
  • Professional instructors
  • Receive 4 hockey skills credits and 4 PE credits each year of participation
  • All skill levels welcome

Outdoor Education

  • 4 day Sayward Lakes Canoe trip offered semester 1 or 2
  • 6 day Nitinat/West Coast Trail trip offered semester 2
  • Become proficient in numerous performance oriented activities 
  • Wilderness safety, canoeing/portaging 
  • Hiking and camping in a wilderness setting

Claremont Sports Academies

Golf Academy

  • Golf class/practice is held at Highland Pacific Golf Course 
  • School bus transportation from Claremont
  • Designed to assist young golfers by providing innovative instruction from CPGA professionals
  • Course fee includes transportation, clothing, equipment, course usage fee and PGA teaching professional
  • Available Semester 2 (Feb - June) in block 4 annually
  • CSI Golf Academy

Swimming Academy

  • Afternoon pool and weight training at Saanich Commonwealth Pool 
  • Operated in partnership with Island Swimming
  • Receive 4 PHE credits and 4 elective credits (Science of Sport and Training or Strength and Conditioning)
  • Provides an opportunity to excel in academics and athletics 
  • Must be enrolled for a full school year

Rowing Academy

  • Daily training at Elk Lake, current home of the Canadian National Rowing Team.
  • Mix of on water, dryland and cross-training activities
  • Compete in all local school and club regattas 
  • Expand your knowledge of sport science, fitness, nutrition strength training and time-management
  • Must be enrolled for a full school year

Lacrosse Academy

  • Considered one of the elite high school lacrosse academy programs in North America
  • Superior on-field coaching and a wealth of competitive opportunities
  • Must be enrolled for a full school year
  • Receive 4 PHE credits and 4 elective credits (Science of Sport and Training or Strength and Conditioning)
  • Amazing list of alumni in professional and NCAA lacrosse programs
