Activities
Every school year, international students studying in Saanich participate in organized activities and excursions. While not required, SISP activities and excursions are encouraged to explore other parts of British Columbia and build long lasting friendships. Registration is completed at your school by your school based International Program Assistant or online when trips are provided by our partner, Discover Canada Tours.
The SISP New Student JumpStart Orientation is a 2 day event. In this 2 day orientation, students will be introduced to their school and community and participate in a variety of activities. Students will be involved in several events at their respective schools such as presentations, seminars, tours, games, and assessments. In addition, students will be taken outside of their schools to explore and experience the beautiful Greater Victoria area. Be sure to bring your study permit and a lunch! You will receive your class schedule for semester 1 on day 2.
Join Prince of Whales Whale Watching! Experience the majesty of the Salish Sea and its wildlife, from whales surfacing in unison to bald eagles soaring overhead. Explore the Strait of Georgia’s and Howe Sound’s currents in search of orcas and humpback whales, and listen to the marine mammal experts bring the animals’ stories to life (while you stay warm, dry and hydrated in the heated cabin, of course!) The quintessential whale watching experience for every adventurer. Departing from Victoria’s inner harbour and getting out of the water is a must while in Saanich!
Claremont's Screamfest is back for a 14th year! One of the scariest and most fun events in Saanich Schools where Claremont transforms the Large Gym and Theatre into an extravaganza of games/activities/food/and spooky fun for everyone! Screamfest will take over a third of the school with a haunted walk and haunted rooms featuring Claremont theatre students. The dance studio will feature performances by members of the dance program.
Only a ferry ride away, during this overnight trip we embrace the city of Vancouver in all its beauty and flair while also attending an NHL Hockey Game to watch the match of Vancouver Canucks. Students will also visit Capilano Suspension Bridge and the lively Shipyard District for a panoramic view of the downtown Vancouver skyline, a driving tour of Stanley Park and some shopping time in Metrotown Mall. The trip date will be determined when the Canucks schedule is released.
Coach transportation and tour guide, hotel accommodation, and admission to FlyOver Canada and Capilano Suspension Bridge, and Canucks Game Ticket will be included in the fee.
Christmas Dance is Saanich schools' traditional activity in winter time. Students not only have the opportunity to meet Canadian Santa Claus but also to enjoy a wonderful buffet and to dance the night away together. All international students are invited for great fun and cheer.
We will spend two nights in the majestic Whistler village and enjoy the world-class alpine mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb for 2 days. Whistler is the co-host of the Winter Olympics in 2010 and the largest ski resort in North America. All levels of skiers and boarders are encouraged to join as instruction is provided by highly trained ski and boarding professionals. This trip includes accommodation in Whistler, ski/snowboard equipment rentals, lift tickets and 2 full day lesson with a certified Whistler Instructor.
It is a good idea to have some delicious food together to celebrate the lunar new year of Dragon arrives in Feb, 2024. The Lunar New Year is a time for togetherness, when family members travel from near and far to exchange well wishes for the coming year. Saanich International Student Program is a big family with students from so many countries, and we believe these recipes are sure to bring you luck and prosperity for the coming year.
Ski Vancouver Island’s own Mount Washington Alpine Resort just outside of Courtenay approximately 3 hours north of Victoria. This is a 1 night and 1 day ski trip including snow tubing. For skiing and snowboarding, there are 60 km of slopes available. 9 lifts transport the guests. Mount Washington is home to one of the most spectacular coastal alpine settings in North America. With the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop on one side and scenic Strathcona Park bordering the other. The terrain for beginners is excellent and there are easy progression runs on nice covered magic carpets. There is terrain that caters for all ability levels as well. Where the north wind meets the land, an eerie, sulfurous-green sheen begins to ripple into the night sky. The spectacular and mystical Northern Lights and viewings are the secrets we explore in Yukon. We will also have dog sledging and other unforgettable activities in the 3 nights flight tour.
This trip will bring you to explore the beautiful mountain town of Banff in Alberta and the pristine, clear blue Lake Louise. You will experience a truly Canadian moment of mountain hiking. From British Columbia to Albert, your will fall in love with the gorgeous natural environment, and make lifelong friends and memories on this adventure through the Rockies!
This is Tofino Beach & Surfing Tour for Saanich international students. This 3-day trip will bring you to explore the beautiful beach in Tofino and the rain forest of Pacific Rim National Park. Also, you will experience an exciting moment of surfing in the Pacific Ocean and make unforgettable memories of your study in Canada. A route to Tofino. We stop ion the road where students view some of the world’s biggest trees and beautiful falls. Once in the Tofino area we spend time at breathtaking Long Beach. We will enjoy the adventures of surfing, hiking, and bear watching in the next two days and enjoy the music and dinner on the beach.
Everyone involved with SISP is invited to this very fun event. Students, staff, host families, teachers, and administration get together and enjoy a BBQ dinner & live music. We will have the professional DJ there. The only thing you have to bring is your passion for a rocking dance floor.
